Joseph Baum, Deputy Chairman (Political) of Chesham and Amersham Conservatives, was last night elected to Chesham Town Council to represent the Townsend ward. In a hard-fought election which was also contested by Labour, the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party, the Conservative candidate emerged as the clear winner.
Joseph lives on Sunnyside Road in the Townsend ward and is currently a School Governor at Elmtree Junior and Infant School. He recently set up, and continues to run, Chesham's Youth Council and is a committee member of the Chesham Society.
Commenting after the results were announced, Joseph said:
"After more than a year spent knocking on doors and listening to people, I am absolutely thrilled to have been given the chance to represent the area that I live in and I thank the residents for their support. Regardless of how people voted, everyone in our area deserves someone who will work hard and fight their corner on the issues we all care about and that is exactly what I will try to do on the Council - whether it's parking, speeding, fixing our broken streets or restoring pride in our town.
Now more than ever we need people of all ages and backgrounds getting involved and putting themselves forward into positions of responsibility and I hope last night is only the start of things to come."
Cllr Jane MacBean, Mayor of Chesham, welcomed the news and looked forward to working with Joseph.
"After months spent pounding the streets and talking to hundreds of residents, Joseph thoroughly deserves the chance to represent his area on the Council. Having more young people involved in the running of our town is exactly what we need and I look forward to working with Joseph in the months ahead."
The next all-out elections to the Town Council will take place in May 2020, when voters across the whole town will have the chance to have their say.
