There are growing calls to scrap the controversial HS2 project as the estimated cost rose to £106 billion, up from an estimated £33bn just a few years ago.
The eye-watering new cost projection comes as many MPs for southern and northern constituencies have urged the Prime Minister to cancel HS2 before any more taxpayers' money is wasted.
Chesham and Amersham MP, Dame Cheryl Gillan, has opposed HS2 since it was first announced in the dying days of Gordon Brown's premiership and continues to work to protect our local area from the damage it would cause.
Carl Jackson, Chairman of Chesham and Amersham Conservative Association, described the cost of HS2 as "beyond a joke", adding that "It is time to put this ailing white elephant out of its misery".
